Effective First Aid

Welcome to the “Effective First Aid” course, comprising 12 lessons, designed to give you the essentials for addressing common medical emergencies that may occur in the workplace. Knowing the correct first aid techniques can reduce further damage and be lifesaving in a time of need. This course starts with a lesson on the emergency basics you need to know to respond appropriately to medical emergencies. Then, lessons on cold stress, heat stress, dehydration, using an AED, cardiac arrest and heart attacks, head injuries and concussions, and bites and scratches—from animal and human—follow. The course also features lessons on first aid treatment for breathing emergencies and choking; broken bones, fractures, and dislocations; bleeding, sprains, and strains; and finally, anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock. While in-person first-aid training is important and effective in preparing you for responding to medical emergencies, this course offers a refresher of how to quickly recognize and respond with correct first aid treatment for these critical situations. This program is valid for 1.25 PDC for Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 1 hour(s) of recertification credit through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) and 1 PDU for the Project Management Institute (PMI).
