FERPA Explained

Welcome to the “FERPA Explained” video lesson created to provide the necessary information on The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. This lesson dives into the many facets of this federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It also explains what’s included in FERPA’s definition of education records and which education programs FERPA applies to. The focus of this lesson is to describe the four main rights that educational agencies and institutions must annually notify parents and eligible students of, as well as the limitations of those rights. Viewers of this lesson will ultimately have a basic understanding of what FERPA is and why it matters.
